Jade Foo Dogs, Chinese, circa 19th Century
Matching statues carved of Jade, with stands. These figures have traditionally stood guard over the entrance to Buddhist temples and tombs; thus discouraging evil spirits and wrong doers from entering, and maintaining peace and tranquility within the sanctuary. The fearsome pair sit with heads tilted inward. One, the male, is slightly larger. Jade in a spectrum of colors, with striations ranging from white to forrest green. Each foo dog terminates to a squared form and sit on a base a rectangular wooden stand.  Measures, with stands, approximately 9-1/4"H x 3-1/2"L x 4-1/2"W.
